Bluecoats Honor 2011 Hall of Fame Inductees

(Canton, Ohio) - 7/8/2011

Three new members were inducted into the Bluecoats Hall of Fame at a special ceremony held during the intermission of the Innovations in Brass Drum Corps Competition, in Akron, OH on Thursday, July 7, 2011.

Scott Swaldo, President of the Bluecoats Board of Directors presented the awards to Dinah Armey, Debbie Pietrangelo, and Tom Rarick.

The Bluecoats Hall of Fame honors individuals who make exceptional contributions and provide enduring service to the organization. Being elected to the Hall of Fame is the single highest honor that can be bestowed upon any member of the Bluecoats Family.

Inductee Dinah Armey began her service to the Bluecoats as a parent volunteer in 1993 and remained an active part of the Bluecoats family throughout the next 10 years.  After several years of working on the food truck, Dinah used her own initiative to obtain a CDL license so she could continue to serve the Bluecoats as a bus driver. She supported the souvenirs program; was the Corps seamstress; volunteered at virtually every winter camp; and served terms on the Board of Directors.  Dinah is also credited with starting what is now one of the corps member’s favorite traditions – “Blue Christmas in July”.

Dinah’s unconditional service, infectious personality, and ability to give a sense of belonging to all that she touched have endeared her to the Bluecoats family forever.

Inductee Debbie Pietrangelo began her service to the Bluecoats as a parent volunteer starting in 1997 and continued through 2009.  During Debbie’s 13 years with the Bluecoats she supported the Corps wherever needed and spent countless hours in her primary role as the Corps Seamstress.  Debbie did an exceptional job ensuring the uniforms and flags were impeccable and made the Corps look truly amazing on the field.  In 2006, Debbie was named the Bluecoats Volunteer of the year for her outstanding service and for ensuring that a challenging visual effect in the show was executed to perfection.

Debbie embodies the spirit of volunteerism and service, and the Bluecoats are forever grateful for her significant contributions.

The final Class of 2011 Inductee, Front Ensemble and Battery Arranger Tom Rarick, joined the Bluecoats in 2001 and is celebrating his 11th season as a member of the Bluecoats instructional staff and design team.  Tom has served the Corps as an instructor, educator, arranger, staff leader.  Under his leadership, the Bluecoats front ensemble has not only flourished, but has become established as one of the best in the drum corps activity.

More recently, Tom has assumed a greater role within the organization as the Corps’ sole percussion arranger, and his efforts have helped elevate the Bluecoats to unprecedented heights.
Yet, while Tom’s contribution to the Bluecoats on field success is significant, his greatest contribution to the Corps is in his role as a music teacher and mentor to countless young students.  He has taught life’s lessons, and how to handle yourself with professionalism and class to countless Bluecoats members over the years.

Tom Rarick embodies the values and standards of excellence of the Bluecoats at the highest level.
Please join the Bluecoats in congratulating Dinah Armey, Debbie Pietrangelo, and Tom Rarick on their induction into the Bluecoats Hall of Fame as the Class of 2011.
