THE BLUE WAY Interactive Educational Experience

(Canton, Ohio) - 3/31/2009

The Bluecoats, a world-class youth education organization, are proud to present THE BLUE WAY Interactive Educational Experience, a hands-on weekend clinic for brass, tenor, snare, and guard students.

THE BLUE WAY Interactive Educational Experience will be held June 12-13 on the beautiful campus of Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Participating students will learn the methods and techniques necessary for success in the marching arts from our talented staff of educators. They will also have the opportunity to rehearse and perform segments of the 2010 "METROPOLIS: THE FUTURE IS NOW" side by side with members of the 2010 Bluecoats. Whether you plan to audition for the Bluecoats in the future and want to get a taste of what to expect, or you just want to learn what it takes to be the best - THE BLUE WAY is for you!

Location & Schedule

Saturday June 12 – Sunday June 13, 2010

Registration: 9:00am, Saturday, June 12th
Final Performance with Corps: 2:00pm, Sunday, June 13th

Cost

  • $150 per student (if registered on or before June 1st)
  • $125 per student (for school groups of 5 or more on or before June 1st)
  • $200 per student (if registered after June 1st)
  • $175 per student (for school groups of 5 or more after June 1st)

Cost Includes:

  • Housing for one night on the campus of Denison University (dorm)
  • All meals (provided by Bluecoats food service)
  • T-Shirt
  • One pair of Innovative Percussion drum sticks (for all percussion students)
  • “The Blue Way” Instructional Book (brass & percussion)
  • All instruction and additional music & materials

Housing & Meals

Students will be housed in dorms on the campus of Denison University, but will need to provide their own linens and/or sleeping bag and pillow as well as general toiletries. The Bluecoats food service program will provide all meals while in attendance.

Parents are welcome to visit at anytime during the camp, but we ask that they stay in a near-by hotel. Here are a few hotels within a 15-minute drive of the campus of Denison University:

Transportation Instructions

Click here for driving directions to Denison University. Follow the “Bluecoats” signs to the check-in area.

Fly into the Port Columbus International Airport (link to CMH website) on Saturday, June 12th at or before 9:00am EST. Schedule your return flight at or after 6:00pm EST on Sunday, June 13th.

Note: we will not provide housing on Friday, June 11th.

For transportation from the airport to the camp, please send an email with the following information to transportation@bluecoats.com:

  • Name
  • Indicate that you are a “The Blue Way” Camp participant
  • Destination (i.e. Canton Airport, Cleveland Airport, Canton Bus Station)
  • Airline / Bus Company
  • Flight # / Bus #
  • Arrival Day / Time and Departure Day / Time
  • Cell Phone # (if available)

What to Bring

Everyone should bring:

Bedding (no linens will be provided)
Toiletries/shower items
Towel
Pajamas
Warm athletic clothes for night
Lightweight athletic clothes for day
Running shoes/sneakers

Snare/Tenor students should bring:

Snare or Tenor Drum
Drum stand or carrier
Extra pair of sticks

Brass students should bring their instrument of choice:

Trumpet, Mellophone, Baritone/Euphonium, or Tuba/Sousaphone
Mouthpiece

Guard students should bring the following:

6” flag
Rifle (optional)
Sabre (optional)
Clothes appropriate for movement/dancing

Registration

IMPORTANT: All pre-registered students will receive the following information via email at least 7 days prior to the event:

  • “The Blue Way” Instructional Book (brass & percussion)
  • Any additional music or instructional materials needed for the event
  • Medical Forms & Waivers
  • Final event schedule & logistical information
