Michael McKenna
Battery Instructor
Michael McKenna has been studying music since the age of five, when he began 13 years of classical and jazz piano training. He was on the tenor line for the 2003 DCI High Percussion Award winning Cadets drumline, and aged out with The Cadets in 2004. He was a member of the tenor line for the 2005 and 2006 WGI Percussion Independent World silver medalists, Rhythm X. His marching experience also includes: the Americanos (2001), the Colts (2002), Michigan State Drumline (2003) and Great Lakes Percussion (2004). Michael has performed professionally with BDEntertainment and the Detroit Pistons Drumline.
Michael is entering his second season on staff with the Bluecoats as the quad tech. He has been on the instructional staff for Rhythm X, where he helped their 2007 ensemble become the first independent indoor drumline to tour Europe. He has also worked with Redline Percussion, where he helped them earn a spot in WGI Independent World Class Finals in their first two competitive seasons. McKenna has worked with many high schools in southeast Michigan, and has provided private instruction to students in the metro-Detroit area.
Michael currently resides in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He is a senior at the University of Michigan-Dearborn where he is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy.
